DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Sophomore Theresa Broad showed why she is the leading scorer in the Azusa Pacific line up as she recorded a hat trick to lead the third-seeded Cougars to a 3-0 shutout against No. 14 Houghton in the second round of the 2007 NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament on Thursday. All three goals came in the first half as APU improves to 18-1-1 and advances to the quarterfinals, while Houghton's season comes to an end at 13-3-3.
In the seventh minute, Broad won a one-v-one battle with the Houghton goalkeeper, took a few steps to the left and deposited the ball in an empty net for a 1-0 Azusa Pacific lead.
Broad got some help on her second goal from Bridget Brotherton and Sarah Yoro in the 30th minute. She completed the trifecta in the 42nd minute after taking advantage of an empty goal and puting the ball into the upper right hand corner to seal the win.
Azusa Pacific will play the winner of the Northwood/William Jewell match at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
