KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Lexy Determan of Northwestern (Iowa) has been selected as the NAIA Softball Pitcher of the Week while Lakyn Newton of Shorter (Ga.) was awarded the NAIA Softball Player of the Week for April 21-27.

 

Determan, a freshman pitcher from Terril, Iowa, recorded four wins and a save last week. She struck out 28 batters in 24 innings and allowed just two runs.  On the season Determan is 17-8 with 1.67 ERA and 220 strikeouts.  She set a new school record for strikeouts in a single season.

 

Newton, a senior infielder from Greenville, Ala., recorded eight hits in nine at bats for a .889 batting average during the week and helped the team post 4-0 record.  She scored three runs while driving in three more. On the season Newton is batting .395 with 44 runs and 38 RBI.
