Navy men's swimming and diving program's Class of 2008

The Navy men's swimming and diving Class of 2008 Christopher Jenkins is from Chicago, Ill., and the son of Lynn and Mark Jenkins. While at Navy, Chris studied political science and was named to the Commandant's List in three semesters, the Superintendent's list once and the 2006 Patriot League Academic Honor roll. Chris was a fierce in-season competitor for the Midshipmen and helped Navy to its 2005 Patriot League championship by anchoring the victorious 800 free relay. Chris is a USA Swimming National qualifier who competed at the national meets in the spring and winter of 2007. Upon graduation, Chris will report to flight school where he will train to become a Navy pilot. His proudest Navy swimming accomplishment has been beating Army four straight years. Kevin Kysiak is from Western Springs, Ill., and the son of Bill and Dorothy Kysiak. Kevin majored in computer science at Navy, is the third-fastest breaststroker in school history and owns three of the school's top-ten performances in the 100 breast. Kevin is a school record holder in both the 200 and 400 medley relay events and has been a mainstay on Navy's medley relay for three years. Kevin is a USA Swimming National qualifier who has competed in the last three national championships in the 100 breast. After graduation he will begin BUD/s in Coronado as he trains to become a Navy SEAL. Danny Mizelle is from Rockville, Va., but strongly claims Nebraskan roots. He is the son of Robert and Polly Mizelle and majored in history at Navy. In 2006 he was received Second-Team All-Patriot League honors. For four years in a row, Danny placed fourth in the 200 back at the Patriot League Championship to help the team win four straight league titles. He has been selected to join the special operations community and will train to become a member of an explosive ordinance disposal unit. Adam Niekras was an information technology major from Syracuse, N.Y., and the son of Stanley Niekras and Sara Bruce. He named to the Dean's List in one semester and the Superintendent's list three times during his academic career. In 2006, '07, and '08 he was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, garnered Second Team All-Patriot League honors in 2007 and earned first-team all-league accolades in 2008. During his final season, Adam highlighted a great dual meet campaign by placing second on the three meter and third on the one meter at the Patriot League meet. Adam was selected to become a Navy pilot after graduation and is happy that he will join a community where everyone loves what they do for a living. His proudest Navy swimming and diving memories were winning his first collegiate meet earlier this year and the 2007 EISL meet where all three Navy divers made the championship final on the one meter. Christian Nielsen is from Jacksonville, Fla., and the son of Allan and Suzanne Nielsen. He majored in mechanical engineering major and was named to the Commandant's List four times, the Dean's List twice and to the 2007 and '08 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. This past season he totaled nine top-three finishes in dual meet competitions. He was a leader in the water on a daily basis and finished his Navy academic career with a 4.00 GPA over his final semester in the classroom. Christian has been selected to become a Navy pilot after graduation and looks forward to being able to call himself a naval aviator. Mike Lowhorn is from St. Louis, Mo., and the son of Mike and Jenny Lowhorn. While at Navy, Mike majored in ocean engineering. His proudest Navy swimming moments will be finishing four great years by giving his best at every practice, beating Army all four years and being named team captain for his senior season. As captain, Mike led the team to its largest margin of victory in school history over Army in extending the team's N-Star winning streak to 17 years. Mike qualified for the USA Swimming national championship and competed at the event this past December. Mike finaled in both breaststroke events at the 2007 Patriot League Championship and helped the team to its best finish in the EISL in eight years in 2008. He has been a leader in the water for the Navy breaststroke corps and finished the season with a team record, Patriot League sweep, and EISL finish that will be talked about for years to come. Mike has been chosen the special warfare community and will train to become a Navy SEAL after graduation. |
