11 Mids Earn League Academic Honor for Rowing

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- The Patriot League office announced its Academic Honor Roll for women's rowing this week and 11 members from Navy's team qualified for the accolade. Members of all four classes are eligible for the honor roll, which requires student-athletes to have both posted a minimum 3.20 grade-point average during the 2008 spring semester and earn a varsity letter during the 2007-08 season. The 2008 honor roll consisted of 92 rowers from around the league. A Patriot League-best four Mids posted 4.00 GPA's during the 2008 spring term, with recent graduates Fiona McFarland (Southampton, N.Y.), Catherine Ortman (Moline, Ill.) and Sarah Roberts (Findlay, Ohio) and rising senior Megan Selbach Allen (Odessa, Wash.) all attaining the coveted mark. McFarland graduated with an international relations degree, Ortman majored in ocean engineering, Roberts majored in aerospace engineering and Selbach Allen is an applied math major. Additionally, both McFarland and Ortman were named to the honor roll in each of their four years, while Roberts and Selbach Allen both earned the accolade for the first time. Other Mids named to the list include recent graduate Caroline Mayer (Racine, Wis.), rising juniors Kelsey Cellon (Virginia Beach, Va.), Kristin Lyles (Fairfax Station, Va.), Johanna Mahoney (Seattle, Wash.) and Meredith Meehan (Glenshaw, Pa.) and rising sophomores Barbara Portigue (Charlotte, N.C.) and Sierra Rooney (Ardsley, Pa.).
