Charlotte, N.C. - Junior Adu Dentamo posted an NCAA Regional qualifying time and smashed the school record as the top collegiate finisher in the 3000m steeplechase at the Duke Invitational this weekend, completing the course in 9:06.06 and anchoring the Charlotte 49ers to five additional qualifying performances over the weekend. Charlotte has now turned in 18 NCAA Regional qualifying times in its three active weekends of the outdoor season.

"It was a good weekend for us, we got a lot of competitive work done," head coach Bob Olesen said. "I think we were hoping for some more regional marks but in hindsight were probably being greedy. It is still early and we are heading for a two more big meets in the next two weeks, Sea Ray for the sprints and field and Princeton for the distance. This weekend set us up very well to capture more qualifiers, records, bests, etc. before heading into conference."

Joining Dentamo was junior Pat Springs, who turned in a 6.27m (20'7") long jump performance, just one centimeter off her personal best, for an NCAA Regional qualifier to lead the Atlantic 10 by over two feet. She also ran on the 4x100m team, joined by senior Lajarsha Moses, junior Lamarra Currie and senior Courtney Patterson, who qualified for the Regional with a 45.06 finish at the Florida Relays, moving the group into sixth place all-time for Charlotte. Junior Aja Jackson improved her 800m Regional time to 2:08.69 at the Duke Invitational, while senior LaMarcus Outing's long jump of 24'1" (7.34m) at the Florida Relays rounded out the 49ers' qualifying performances.

Other notable Charlotte performances in non-championship events included a school record-setting 3000m time of 8:21.54 by junior Ryan Jank at the Duke Invitational and another record-setting 4x200m relay time of 1:35.59 from Currie, Ebonie Cunningham, Patterson and Moses at the Florida Relays.

The 49ers return to action this weekend at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tennessee.
