Day One Results
FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. - Sophomore Darius Law waited out a two-plus hour weather delay before finishing 18th in the preliminary round of the 400 meter dash propelling himself into the semifinal on day one of the NCAA Championships at the University of Arkansas.
Law finished fourth in his heat in a time of 46.502 to advance to Friday's 400 meter dash semi-final race. Following the delay, the wind was in Law's face as the field turned in slower than normal times.
After an extensive delay pushed back the start of the women's long jump until after 11 p.m. Eastern time, senior Pat Springs hit a 19'11 3/4" leap in her second jump of the day to finish 12th and advance to Thursday's final.
Charlotte's 4x100 meter relay squad got the day started off in the first round with a 19th place finish in a time of 47.17 seconds.
Following on the heels of the 4x100 was senior Aja Jackson in the 800 meter run. Jackson missed the preliminary cut by sixth-tenths of a second and finished in 20th place overall in a time of 2:06.77.
Jackson leaves the Queen City as the indoor and outdoor school record holder in the 800 meter run.
Senior Lamarra Currie turned in a 26th place finish in the preliminary heat of the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.68 seconds.
Currie will have one more opportunity to earn All-American status when she competes in tomorrow's 200 meter dash. The 200 will fire off at 6:10 p.m. Central time with the preliminary heat.
Springs in back in action on Thursday at 4:45 Central time as she looks to pick up back-to-back All-American honors in the long jump. Law is back in action on Friday at 7:25 p.m. with the semi-final heats of the 400 meter dash. Friday's action will be broadcast on CBS College Sports starting at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time.
