March 31, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. - Freshman Darius Law (Raleigh, N.C./Southeast Raleigh HS) was named both the Men's Outdoor Track and Field Performer and Rookie of the Week as the Charlotte 49ers swept the Atlantic 10 weekly awards, league officials announced Monday. Joining him were senior Tsehaye Dagnachew (Jacksonville, N.C./Jacksonville HS) and freshman Yvonna Hines (Brown Summitt, N.C./Northeast Guilford HS), who were named Women's Performer of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Law posted an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 46.79 in the 400m dash with a first-place finish at the Raleigh Relays over the weekend, allowing him to move into possession of the conference lead by nearly two seconds.

Dagnachew, who also turned in an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 10:30.51 in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Raleigh Relays, now leads the conference in the event by an astounding 30 seconds.

Hines placed second in the 400m dash with a time of 54:97 at the Raleigh Relays, moving into the conference's top spot in the event and third on the Charlotte all-time list. She also ran the second leg of the 4x400m relay, which placed second at the meet and first in the conference thus far this season.

Law, Dagnachew and Hines join the rest of the 49ers as they head to the Florida Relays and Duke Invitational this weekend.
