Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte volleyball program will continue preparations for the 2009 fall season with their first spring matches this weekend at the College of Charleston spring tournament.

Charlotte, which finished the season 12-17, will face Clemson, North Carolina, College of Charleston and Charleston Southern this weekend. The Niners will take on Clemson during the regular season next fall.

"The team has been working extremely hard this spring in both the weight room and on the court, said head coach Chris Redding, who is spending his third spring with the team. "Our staff and our players are ready to face some outside competition so that we can evaluate our progress. The players are very hungry to compete and we are looking to have a fun and exciting tournament to kick off the spring."

Charlotte lost only two seniors to graduation, libero Carly Romberg and setter Courtney Cowles, and has eight returning players heading into the spring.

The Niners will begin their fall season on August 28, at the Deacon Invitational Tournament at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C.
