SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The reserves for the Charlotte 49ers Cross Country team competed at the USC Upstate Invitational while the starters were competing at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute on Saturday. Four runners competed for the men’s squad, while the women fielded a full squad of seven runners and came away with a fourth place finish.

Leading the women’s squad was Christina Hobbs, who ran a season best time of 19:08.08 to place eighth in the 5k race. Following Hobbs was Justine Thompson in 11th place finishing in 19:15.99. Rounding out the top five for Charlotte were Jackie Ross (25th; 20:15.30), Tricia Brown (28th; 20:21.75) and Emily Harris (30th; 20:29.80). Also running in the race were Katie Holloway (51st; 21:38.19) and Alyssa Bradley (53rd; 22:06.33).

The 49ers scored 102 points and finished behind Davidson (36), USC Upstate (45) and UNC-Greensboro (67) in the 12-team race.

The men’s squad did not accumulate a team score due to only competing four runners, but came away with three top-16 finishers. Chris Capps was Charlotte’s top finisher in the 8k race with a time of 26:25.08, while Javan Lapp claimed 15th (27:00.61) and was followed by Daweet Dagnachew in 16th (27:01.13). David Eubanks also ran in the race taking 42nd place for the Niners.

Charlotte's focus will now turn to the A-10 Championship on October 31st in St. Louis, Mo. Last year the women claimed runner-up honors with Amanda Goetschius taking the individual title, while the men took fourth place with Adu Dentamo taking the men’s top honor.
