Men's Rankings

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Charlotte cross country teams saw some movement in their positions in the NCAA Division I Cross Country Southeast Regional Rankings released today by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The women's team jumped from 11th in last week's poll to 10th after a strong showing at the NCAA Pre-Nationals, while the men dropped two spots from 12th to 14th in the poll.

This is the fifth ranking of the season and the men's team have been ranked in every poll, while the women have appeared in four of the polls.

Ranked at the top of the Southeast Region on the men's side is Virginia Tech, who is followed by William & Mary and Duke. Richmond is the only other Atlantic 10 team that is ranked in the southeast region as they claimed the tenth spot, while five other A-10 squads are ranked in different regions; Dayton (6th, Great Lakes), La Salle (9th, Mid-Atlantic), Duquesne (11th, Mid-Atlantic), Temple (15th, Mid-Atlantic) and UMASS (9th, Northeast).

On the women's side, Virginia is the top squad followed by Duke and North Carolina. Charlotte jumped ahead of Wake Forest in the region after placing better than the Demon Deacons at the Pre-Nationals. Richmond is also ranked in the southeast region as the Spiders are ranked 13th, while five other A-10 schools are ranked in different regions; La Salle (9th, Mid-Atlantic), Duquesne (11th, Mid-Atlantic), George Washington (12th, Mid-Atlantic), Dayton (12th, Great Lakes) and Saint Joseph's (13th, Mid-Atlantic).

The 49ers competed at the NCAA Pre-National this weekend with the women coming away in 24th place and the men taking 28th. Both races featured 19 out the 30 previously ranked teams from around the nation. Adu Dentamo and Amanda Goetschius were the top finishers for their respective teams finishing 31st and 26th.

Charlotte's focus will now turn to the A-10 Championship on October 31st in St. Louis, Mo. Last year the women claimed runner-up honors with Goetschius taking the individual title, while the men took fourth place with Dentamo taking the men's top honor.
