Charlotte, N.C. - Ryan Lazenby delivered a walk-off, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Green team won 4-3 over the White team in game two of the Niner World Series at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. After losing in the bottom of the tenth on Friday, Green tied the series at one game each. The game was shortened due to a lack of depth with several players being out with illness.
The White team scored first in the third with an unearned run off of right handed starter Corbin Shive on an RBI fielder's choice from senior Mike Perkins.
Green answered to tie the game in the fourth. Cory Tilton hit a two-out double down the third base line and came around to score on a single through the right side by freshman Shane Basen.
The Green team then took the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth. Redshirt freshman J.J. Elseser bunted his way on as the first batter faced by reliever Tyler Pilkington with one out in the frame. Elseser stole second and advanced to third on a groundout. Freshman Shane Basen then singled to drive in Elseser and also stole second. He scored on an RBI single to left by Kevin Gillespie to give the Green team the 3-1 lead.
The White team stayed alive to tie in the top of the seventh. Perkins hit his fourth double of the series with two outs in the frame and redshirt sophomore Ross Steedley hit a two-run homer, his third in two games, to left to tie the game at three.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Green team got a leadoff single from Cory Tilton off of reliever Kelly McLain. Tilton stole second and advanced to third on a groundout, forcing the White team to walk the bases loaded. McLain earned a strikeout before Lazenby dropped the game-winning hit into shallow center with two outs.
