Halton Arena - The Charlotte 49ers shot just 1-of-23 from three-point range and failed to knock down key free throws down the stretch in falling at home to Richmond, 64-58 in Atlantic 10 action.
Despite its poor long-range shooting, the 49ers came back from a 12-point second half deficit to take a two-point lead, 47-45, on a Charlie Coley steal and breakaway dunk with 7:37 to play. After the teams traded baskets, Richmond's Kevin Anderson and David Gonzalvez hit back-to-back threes to give Richmond a four-point edge, 53-49 with 4:55 to go.
Richmond pushed the lead to 57-50 on a putback tip by Kevin Smith, but Michael Gerrity hit a driving layup, connected on one-of-two free throws and connected with Coley for an alley-oop dunk to cut the gap to 57-55, with 1:23 to go.
After forcing a turnover, however, Gerrity missed two free throws with 1:12 to play and Richmond took advantage, hitting four straight free throws to build the lead back to six, 61-55 with 43 seconds left.
Charlotte hit just 3-of-8 free throws in the final 3:56 of the game.
Leading scorer Leemire Goldwire was held to a season-low five points and did not hit a three-pointer for the first time this season. Goldwire was 0-for-8 from long range and last year's league-leading free throw shooter hit just 3-of-6 from the foul line.
Charlotte also lost the battle of the boards, 36-30.
Coley finished with a team-high 13 points and tied the 49ers school record with seven steals while An'Juan Wilderness added 11 points and Charles Dewhurst came off the bench to score 10. The 49ers top three perimeter shooters: Goldwire (0-for-8), Lamont Mack (0-for-7) and Ian Andersen (1-for-6) combined to hit just 1-of-21 threes.

The loss was the 49ers second at home, this season and snapped a 10-game win streak at Halton Arena. Charlotte had dropped a home game to Maryland at Bobcats Arena earlier this season.
Charlotte hits the road take on Dayton, Wednesday night. That game will be televised by CSTV Regional and can be seen locally on Time Warner Cable.
