Box Score

Richmond, Va. - The Charlotte 49ers dropped their third straight game, losing 79-76 in overtime at Richmond, Wednesday night. Each of the three losses have been by three points or less.

Junior Lamont Mack scored a career-high 27 points for the 49ers and freshman An'Juan Wilderness added 18 on 8-of-8 shooting as Charlotte shot 54% from the field.

The 49ers led by nine at the half and pushed the lead to 13 in the first minute of the second half before Richmond rallied back into the contest. A pair of free throws by Kevin Anderson cut the lead to four, 38-34, with 14:53 to play. Anderson keyed Richmond's six unanswered points with a jumper and a three-pointer to give the Spiders a 41-40 lead with 12:54 to play. Mack answered with a three-pointer to push Charlotte back ahead, and they extended that lead ll the way back to 11 points with 7:36 to play, but again the Spiders fought back, closing to within two, 60-58 on a Jarhon Giddings three-pointer at 2:52.

David Gonzalvez's basket with 25 seconds left tied the score at 62 and Charlotte's Charlie Coley's baseline jumper with one second left was off the mark, sending the game into an extra period.

Wilderness knocked down a three-pointer to open the OT period and two Lamont Mack free throws kept the lead at 3, 68-65, with 3:20 to play. A Gonzalvez three and driving layup put the Spiders ahead by two but another Mack three gave Charlotte a one-point lead, 71-70 with 1:42 left.

After a Gonzalvez foul shot tied the game, DiJuan Harris' pass was picked off leading to an Oumar Sylla breakaway jam. He was fouled by Harris and drained the foul shot to put Richmond ahead by 3, 74-71 with 43 seconds left. Five Richmond foul shots nearly iced the game, but Harris knocked down a three with a second left to cut the lead to two. An Anderson foul shot made it a three-point game and Mack's last-ditch effort to tie was off the mark.
