Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz announced that 49ers junior forward Shamari Spears (Salisbury, N.C.) will miss the 49ers season opener vs. UNC Asheville, Friday night, due to a violation of team rules. Spears, who led the 49ers in scoring with 26 points in an exhibition victory over Johnson C. Smith, is a transfer from Boston College.

In keeping with team policy, Lutz did not disclose the nature of the violation that caused the single-game suspension.

Spears, a 6-6 power forward, is expected make his 49ers debut in the first round of the DICK'S Sporting Goods NIT Tipoff, Monday against Elon in Durham, N.C.
