Chattanooga, Tenn. - Charlotte 49ers senior all-America Corey Nagy shot a four-under par 68 to charge into a tie for 4th-place and lead the 49ers to a 6th-place finish at the Aldila Intercollegiate at Council Fire Golf Club.
Nagy finished the three-round event at five-under par 211 to notch his second top five finish of the fall. Nagy won the individual title at the VCU Shootout.
Charlotte finished sixth as a team following the final round of +10, 298. Freshman Andy Sajevic shot even par but sophomore Olafur Loftsson, who held the individual lead after two rounds, posted an eight-over par 80. Senior Ryan Wilson added a six-over par 78 and sophomore Paul Ferrier also shot 80. Loftsson finished in a tie for 15th at one-under par, 215 while Sajevic tied for 17th at even par, 216.
Still, the 49ers were able to finish ahead of 19th-ranked Chattanooga, which hosted the 17-team tournament. Middle Tennessee State (-13, 851) took first place followed by Wichita State (-10, 854) and Southern Mississippi (-2, 862). Charlotte finished with a three-round total of +6, 870, one stroke ahead of Chattanooga (+7, 871).
The 49ers will complete their fall season at the CordeValle Collegiate in San Martin, Ca., Nov. 9-11.
