San Martin, Ca. - Senior all-america Corey Nagy used a string of five straight birdies to post a six-under par 66 and lead Charlotte to the best round of the day at the Gifford Collegiate at CordeValle. The 49ers shot 13-under par, the day's best round by three strokes, to climb into fifth place entering tomorrow's third and final round.
Stanford shot 10-under par to move into first place at 16-under par while Oklahoma State and first-round leader Duke are tied for second at 15-under par. Charlotte is six strokes off the lead at 10-under par.
Freshman Andy Sajevic carded a round of six birdies and one bogey to post a five-under par 67 to complement Nagy's 66. Sophomore Olafur Loftsson and senior Ryan Wilson added one-under par rounds of 71 while junior Will Golden shot even par 72 to give the 49ers the round of 13-under par.
Unlike many tournaments, this event counts the top five scores in each team's six-player lineup. Simon St. Louis added a six-over par round for the 49ers.
Nagy is tied for fourth overall at seven-under par while Loftsson (T13, -3) and Sajevic (T19, -2) join Nagy in the 80-player field's top 20. Wilson and Golden are tied for 43rd at two-over par.
