Farmingdale, N.Y. - Former Charlotte 49ers star Trevor Murphy (St. Johnsbury, Vt.), who helped the 49ers to back to back top 10 NCAA Div. I finishes in 2007 and 2008, birdied the final three holes to move into a tie for 16th after two rounds at the 2009 US Open at Bethpage Black.

Murphy curled in a 10-foot birdie on the 16th, saw his 7-foot putt on 17 crawl into the hole and knocked in a solid 10-footer on 18 and now stands at even par heading into round three.

Murphy had not birdied a hole in the second round and stood at +3 after 15 holes, with the projected cut after +4. Coming in, however, Murphy made good on three birdie opportunities after excellent approaches to post a one-under par round of 69.

Now, Murphy gets ready for round three after making the cut in his first major championship. Murphy did compete in the 2008 PGA Wachovia Championship in Charlotte as an amateur, but narrowly missed the cut by two strokes.

During his college career, Murphy helped the 49ers to four straight NCAA Tournaments, including 2007, when the 49ers tied for third place and 2008, when the 49ers tied for eighth place.
