Charlotte, N.C. - Former Charlotte 49ers golf standout Trevor Murphy tied for 18th in the second qualifying stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School to earn a spot in the Q School Final stage.

Murphy shot eight-under par 280 in stage two at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla. to tie for 18th, overall. The top 21 and ties qualified for the final stage.

Murphy shot a third round of five-under par 67 to move up the board and added a one-under par 71 in the final round to solidify his spot.

The final stage will be held Dec. 2-7 at Bear Lakes C.C. in West Palm Beach, Fla.

While playing with the 49ers, Murphy was part of a class that advanced to four straight NCAA Tournaments, including the 2007 squad that tied for third at the National Championship. Murphy made a name for himself in Charlotte by earning a spot in the 2008 PGA Wachovia Championship at Quail Hollow via a local qualifier during his senior season.
