Charlotte, NC -

Freshman midfielder Donnie Smith of the Charlotte 49ers nationally-ranked men’s soccer team was just named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Team of the Week for his performance this past weekend at Xavier. Smith is the fourth different 49ers men’s soccer player to earn National Team of the Week honors this season. Earlier this year, Evan James, Adam Gross and Nathan Mathers have been named to various National Teams of the Week.

He recorded his first career multiple goals game when he scored Charlotte’s first two goals as the 49ers rallied from a two goal deficit for a 3-2 win at Xavier, Sunday. Smith has now scored three goals to go along with an assist this season for the 49ers.

Smith, James, Gross, Mathers and the rest of the 49ers nationally-ranked men’s soccer team concludes the regular-season this weekend with a two-game road trip to Philadelphia, November 6-8. First, the 49ers face Saint Joseph’s, Friday, November 6 at 7 pm. Then, the 49ers conclude the regular-season at Temple, Sunday, November 8 at 1 pm.
