Charlotte, NC - Charlotte 49ers men's soccer senior midfielder Adam Gross was just named first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. Gross, who was a third-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American last season, joins Jim Kunevicius (1996-97) as the only two student-athletes in the program's history to earn multiple Academic All-American honors.
Gross, who is the 49ers team captain, played a major role in helping the nationally-ranked 49ers win 11 games and earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Two weeks ago, Gross became the first 49ers men's soccer player to be named A-10 Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year. Gross also was named first-team All-Atlantic 10 and to the A-10 Academic All-Conference team.
Gross has a 3.66 GPA in Business Management. Acouple of weeks ago, he was named first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District for the second straight season.
The Austin, Texas native ranks among the A-10 leaders with a team-leading career-high eight goals with four of them being game-winners. He also is second on the team with six assists which gives him a team-leading 22 points. He scored two goals and added two assists in the 49ers win over George Washington. He has earned A-10 Player of the Week honors twice this season. Gross was also named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Week as well.
Gross and the rest of the Charlotte 49ers nationally-ranked men's soccer team battles in-state foe UNC Wilmington at Transamerica Field in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Thursday, November 19 at 7 pm.
