Charlotte Got Wins at No. 2 Doubles and Nos. 5 & 6 Singles

Blacksburg, Va. - The No. 35 Virginia Tech men's tennis team began Saturday's Larsen Bowker Invitational with a 5-2 win against Charlotte Saturday morning in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Tech opened the dual meet by taking two of three doubles matches from the 49er's to earn the first point of the match then won four of six singles match to complete the 5-2 dual meet win.

To start the match, the Hokies' top tandem of Nicolas Delgado de Robles and Yoann Re remainded Tech's only undefeated doubles team this season by defeating Felix Bernhoerster and Brad Clinard, 8-2. The duo is now a perfect 4-0.

In their first match together this season, Sebastien Jacques and Albert Larregola came back from a 4-2 deficit to defeat Moritz Bernhoerster and Michael Anders, 8-4, in No. 3 doubles to earn the point for the Hokies.

Charlotte's No 2 team of Jeff Archer and Jesse Hutchinson fought through a tiebreak to take the doubles victory 9-8 over The Hokies' team of Pedro Graber and Alexandre Labrosse, but Tech had already clinched the dual match's opening point.

Tech took singles matches one through four to complete the dual match victory. In the No. 1 singles match, No. 42 Larregola earned a 6-2, 6-3 win against Clinard. Larregola is now 16-5 on the season. Graber defeated Charlotte's Ricky Cuellar 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.

Re played Felix Bernhoerster and came away with a decisive 6-1, 6-4 victory in the No. 2 match to clinch the meet victory, before Brandon Corace earned a 6-4, 6-3 win against Michael Anders.

Charlotte claimed a pair of 6-4, 6-3 victories in the No. 5 and 6 matches. The Niners' Moritz Bernhoerster upended Tech's Labrosse and transfer Chris Huynh took out Eduardo Pinto.

Charlotte will finish the weekend with a 9 a.m. match versus Maryland-Baltimore County on Sunday.
