Blacksburg, Va. - The Charlotte 49ers men's tennis team opened up the 2008 dual match season with a 4-3 loss versus Atlantic 10 foe St. Bonaventure Friday afternoon at the Larsen Bowker Invitational, hosted by Virginia Tech.

The Niners began the day with a lead heading into singles play. The number-two and three doubles pairs each recorded wins for Charlotte.

Jeff Archer and Jesse Hutchinson finished off the number-two pair of Leo Mochizuki and Chris Post 8-6, while number-three pair Moritz Bernhoerster and Michael Anders survived a tiebreaker to win 9-8 over Sudakov and Larregola.

The Bonnies captured the number-one doubles in a tiebreak 9-8 as Jonathan Luce and Victor Lecina outlasted Charlotte's Felix Bernhoerster and Brad Clinard at the end.

In singles play, SBU went 4-2. Charlotte captured wins at number-three and number-five.

Niner Ricky Cuellar won 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 over Diego Valdenegro at No. 3, while Anders took out Larregola 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at number-five.

The Bonnies got straight sets victories in the other four singles spots.

Charlotte takes on host Virginia Tech on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
