Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers men's tennis team dropped another heartbreaker, 4-3 to visiting Boston College Saturday afternoon at the Phillips Tennis Complex. The Niners are 8-13 on the season. It was the sixth match in the last nine that Charlotte has played to a one-point margin, with the Niners winning four of them.
After dropping the doubles point, the Niners were able to only to split the singles points. The Niners lost a pair of three-set singles matches, further displaying how closely matched the two teams are.
"We came back and fought hard today," said Niners head coach Jim Boykin. "I always appreciate guys playing hard. This was a tough one to lose. We started slow again and it's hard to keep playing from behind and coming up with wins. BC is a lot like the teams we'll face in the conference tournament. They are capable like we are."
Freshmen Michael Anders and Moritz Bernhoerster won in straight sets, as did junior Ricky Cuellar. Anders is 16-11 in singles play, while the younger Bernhoerster leads Charlotte with 17 singles wins against 11 losses. Cuellar is a win shy of double-figures in wins this season.
Charlotte finishes the regular season with a home match next Saturday against Davidson at 2 p.m.
