Monroeville, Pa. - The fifth-seeded Charlotte 49ers needed less than 90 minutes to win the opening-round match, over 12th-seeded Fordham, 4-0 at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championships in the Club 4 Life. Charlotte is now 10-11 on the season.
Charlotte advances to face fourth-seeded St. Bonaventure this afternoon at 2 p.m.
In singles play, Brad Clinard posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at number-six. Charlotte's freshmen singles aces also won to clinch victory. Anthony Davison won 6-2, 6-0 at number three and Charles Martin-Lecamp clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win at number four. The 49ers were leading in each of the other three singles matches as well, with wins in the first set of each.
Davison is second the squad with 17 singles victories, while Martin-Lecamp has 16 singles wins this season.
Charlotte won the doubles point with wins at number-two and number-three doubles.
