Monroeville, Pa. - The fifth-seeded Charlotte 49ers defeated sixth-seeded Temple to win the fifth-place match at the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis Championships at the Club 4 Life Sunday morning. The Niners finish an even 12-12 on the season.
The Niners won the doubles point by capturing victory at number two by sophomore Chris Huynh and senior Brad Clinard, 8-6, and at number three by sophomore Michael Anders and junior Mirza Beciragic, 9-7.
The Anders/Beciragic tandem finished with a team-leading 12-6 record in doubles. The Huynh/Clinard combo got to 10 wins together this season.
Charlotte and Temple split the singles matches as Charlotte got the team win.
Tri-captain and sophomore Moritz Bernhoerster got to 22 singles wins in a three-set marathon at number one, 0-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7).
Anders (number two) and fellow sophomore Chris Huynh (number six) took straight-sets victories. Anders won 6-1, 6-2 and Huynh won 7-5, 6-2.
Anders finished the season 16-16 in singles play, while Huynh improved to 11-8 in 2009.
Charlotte has finished second, first, fourth and now fifth in the four years as an A-10 Conference member.
