Charleston, S.C. - All five Charlotte 49ers competitors recorded singles victories as the men's tennis team took to the courts for the final time this fall at the College of Charleston Invitational over the weekend.
Juniors Moritz Bernhoerster and Michael Anders won a singles and a doubles match each.
Bernhoerster took out Will Minter of Richmond 6-4, 6-1 on Friday and Anders upended Mickael Boyer of the host Cougars 7-5, 6-3 on Saturday. The tandem defeated Richmond's Minter and Rafael Arana 8-6 in double play.
Charles Martin-Lecamp (6-2, 6-2), Chris Huynh and Jesse Hutchinson (4-6, 6-1, 6-3) all logged one singles victory, with Huynh nearly pulling off a second. Huynh took out Andrew McKinnonn of Appalachian State 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, and lost a thrilling match, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6, losing 14-12 in the tiebreaker to A.J. Nelson of Richmond.
Both long matches took place for Huynh on Friday. Huynh also found himself in a marathon on Sunday, falling 6-0, 2-6, 7-5 to Kyle Parker of College of Charleston.
The Niners begin team match play with a brutal opening stretch, facing North Carolina State, North Carolina and South Carolina in the first week of play. The match against the Wolfpack in Raleigh is on January 31, 2010 at 3:30 p.m.
