PHILADELPHIA – Darius Law and Moritz Bernhoerster took home Men’s Track and Field and Men’s Tennis Performer of the Week honors while freshman sprinter Sam Jordan pulled in his second Rookie of the Week honor as the Atlantic 10 released weekly award winners from the conference office in Philadelphia.
Law blew away his best time of the year with a 20.96 finish in the 200m dash en route to a seventh place finish at the War Eagle Invitational and his fourth Performer of the Week honor of the outdoor season. He also posted a fifth place finishing time of 47.68 in the 400m dash and was the fourth-best collegiate finisher in the event.
The Raleigh, N.C. native also ran a leg of the men's 4x100m relay that placed fifth, clocking a league-best time of 41.16.
Bernhoerster won both of his No. 1 singles and doubles matches this weekend against Davidson and the College of Charleston. His two singles victories pushed his season win-total to 20.
Bernhoerster finished the regular season 13-15 overall in doubles play after downing Davidson, 8-5 and College of Charleston, 9-8.
Jordan finished ninth in the 100m dash with a time of 10.68 in Auburn. He also placed 20th in the 200m dash, clocking a 29.85, before running a leg of the fifth-place 4x100m relay team that crossed the line at 41.16.
Bernhoerster will be in action this weekend at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis Championships in Monroeville, Pa. Law and Jordan are next in action at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Facility on the Charlotte campus on May 2 and 3.
