Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte men's tennis coach Jim Boykin has added Ryan Reynolds as his assistant coach in time for the fall tournament season in 2009.

Reynolds was a four-year letterwinner and first-team Appalachian Athletic Conference member at Milligan, as the team earned a Regional Championship in 2005 and was a National Scholar Team in 2006. He was a team captain in his final two seasons, earning a national No. 21 doubles ranking in the 2006 season. He earned his degree in Business Marketing there in 2007. He has since worked at three different clubs or academies, serving in various tennis capacities, including teaching professional, before his arrival at Charlotte.

"Ryan has some great experience in college tennis," said Boykin. "He's been nationally ranked in his division so it is good for our guys to face him in practice. He brings a lot of enthusiasm to our program. He wants to be a head coach and that's why he's here at Charlotte. He brings just what we need and the players like him."

"I am really looking forward to learning and getting experience under Jim Boykin, with him spending his entire career in coaching," said Reynolds. "I really enjoyed coaching as a teaching pro, but I also enjoyed the level of competition in the college game. It is beneficial to me working with college-aged players as we coaches can influence their lives on and off the court."

In high school, Reynolds was the 2003 Tennessee state doubles champion for Science Hill High School, following the team's 2002 championship season in Division I-AAA.

The Niners will compete in five fall tournaments before the match season begins on January 31 at North Carolina State at 3:30 p.m.
