Philadelphia, PA - Behind two double-figure scoring runs and three double-figure scorers the Charlotte 49ers (19-7, A-10: 10-2) defeated Saint Joseph's (12-15, A-10: 4-8), 69-55, for their 13th road win of the season.

"I thought that we were really focused at the beginning of the game," Charlotte coach Karen Aston said. "We had some mental lapses during the game but we finished strong. My coaching staff did a great job in preparing our team to play today after a tough loss on Wednesday. I thought our guard play with Aysha Jones and Traci Ray was outstanding today. Ashley Spriggs was a real catalyst for us."

Burgin led three 49ers in double-figures with 19 points. Jones scored 17 points including seven-for-seven from the line. Ray scored 12 points for the 49ers.

Jenna Loschiavo led Saint Joseph's with 13 points.

Charlotte enjoyed a 44-26 advantage on the boards behind 11 rebounds from Spriggs. Burgin and Shannon McCallum each grabbed seven rebounds apiece.

Charlotte began the game by scoring 25 of the game's first 31 points taking a 25-6 lead with 7:12 left in the half. Burgin scored seven of Charlotte's points during the run including her first career three-point basket. Katie Meador and Traci Ray also connected on threes. Ray scored five points during the run. Erin Floyd, Ashley Spriggs, Aysha Jones and Shannon McCallum also scored during the 49ers run. Then, Saint Joseph's went on a 14-2 run over the next six minutes cutting the 49ers lead to 27-20 with 1:22 left on the clock.

 

 

Charlotte scored four of the first half's final six points behind baskets from Floyd and Burgin which gave the 49ers a 31-22 lead at the half.

Charlotte pushed their lead to 16 points, 40-24, when Ray knocked down a three at the 16:46 mark of the second half.

Saint Joseph's then 25-9 run over the next ten minutes tying the score, 49-49, when Mary Kate McDade knocked down a three with six minutes left.

The 49ers promptly answered and put the game away with a 12-0 run over the next four minutes. Burgin and Jones each scored four points during the 49ers run. Jones gave the 49ers the lead for good with a layup at the 5:14 mark.

The 49ers were a perfect 12-for-12 from the line over the final three and half minutes.

The 49ers host A-10 foe George Washington in their final regular-season home game, Wednesday, February 25 at 7 pm. Prior to the game the 49ers will honor three seniors student assistant coach Tyhiesha Smith, center Danielle Burgin and guard Traci Ray.
