Box Score

Philadelphia, PA - Aysha Jones scored a team game-high ten points off the bench as the Charlotte 49ers (18-13) fell to Dayton (25-7), 77-53, in the A-10 Tournament Quarterfinals at Saint Joseph's Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. The 49ers will now have to wait until Monday, March 17 to find out if they will be making their sixth straight postseason tournament appearance.

"Our shots were just not falling today," Charlotte coach Karen Aston said. "We started the game off well by building a nine-point lead in the first half. But Dayton hit three straight threes to tie the game. Then, they just started making shots. You have to give Dayton credit for they way they shot the basketball and played today."

Jones led the 49ers with 10 points off the bench including a perfect three-for-three from the line. Traci Ray tallied nine points off the bench for the 49ers. Shannon McCallum added eight points to Charlotte's attack.

The 49ers bench scored 32 points today behind the scoring of Jones, Ray and McCallum.

Dayton had four players score in double-figures led by Karah Cloxton's 20 points.

The 49ers started the game by scoring eight of the first 11 points taking an 8-3 lead at the 17:26 mark. Sabrina Gregory scored four points and Ashley Spriggs and Erin Floyd each scored a basket during the 49ers early run.

When McCallum knocked down a jump shot at the 11:12 mark, the 49ers had built their largest lead of the game, 19-10. Then, Dayton's Kiki Lund knocked down two straight threes and a three from Dayton's Kendel Ross tied the score, 19-19, at the 8:55 mark.

The 49ers regained the lead behind a Ray jump shot and two Floyd free throws pushing their lead back to four points, 23-19, with 6:35 left on the clock. Charlotte maintained a lead for the next minute and half until Cloxton tied the score for the second time, 25-25, with a layup at the 5:14 mark. Dayton's Oakland connected on one free throw giving Dayton a one point lead. Ray knocked down a tough jump shot giving the 49ers their final lead of the game, 27-26, at the 3:40 mark.

Then, Dayton would close the half on a 9-0 run taking a 35-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Baskets from Charlotte's Whitney Hoey and Tyhiesha Smith to start the second half cut Dayton's halftime lead to 35-31, with 17:56 left in the half. Dayton scored five straight points pushing their lead to a then game-high, 40-31, with 16:43 left in the game.

Charlotte answered back with a 7-2 run cutting Dayton's lead to four points, 42-38, at the 13:46 mark. Ray knocked down a three and baskets by Wendy Stywalt and Danielle Burgin constituted Charlotte's scoring during their run.

However, four points would be as close as the 49ers would get to Dayton as the Flyers put the game away with a 17-5 run over the next six minutes pushing their lead to 16 points, 59-43, at the 7:50 mark.

The 49ers will now wait until Monday, March 17 to find out if they will be making their sixth straight postseason tournament appearance.
