Boone, NC - The Charlotte 49ers (1-2) behind a season-high 27 points from Aysha Jones and a 47 point offensive second half outburst defeated Appalachian State (1-1), 74-57, on the road.
"Our seniors really stepped up in the second half," Charlotte coach Karen Aston said. "Aysha Jones, Erin Floyd and Ashley Spriggs really picked us up in the second half. Kendria Holmes really ran the team tonight. Katie Meador gave us some quality minutes. I am just happy to get our first win under our belts."
Jones scored 25 of her 27 points in the second half. Jones had a stretch in the second half where she scored nine straight and seven straight points for the 49ers. Spriggs added 12 points and nine rebounds for the 49ers. Holmes scored a career-high 10 points including two-for-two from three. Floyd scored nine points. Meador scored a career-high eight points. While Rachelle Coward added eight points for the 49ers.
Appalachian State began the game by scoring 11 of the game's first 14 points. Charlotte answered with a 12-4 run tying the score at 15 when Holmes knocked down a three with 7:42 left in the first half. Holmes started the run with her first three as a 49er. Jones and Coward also scored during the run.
The lead exchanged hands six times for the remainder of the half until Appalachian State's Canesha Edwards scored with 34 seconds left in the first half giving the Mountaineers a 28-27 halftime lead.

Appalachian State answered with a 6-0 run tying the score for the fourth time at 34 with 15:02 left in the second half.
With the score tied at 37 at the 13:14 mark, the 49ers would score seven unanswered points taking the lead for good. Floyd, Spriggs and Jones scored during the run. Jones' basket at the 9:46 mark began her run of nine straight 49ers points.
Jones knocked down a three with 3:38 left in the game which pushed the 49ers lead into double-figures for good at 62-50. Jones' three started her run of seven straight 49ers points.
Jones knocked down two free throws with 33 seconds left in the game which gave the 49ers their largest lead at 74-55. Appalachian State's Courtney Freeman scored with 24 seconds left cutting Charlotte's final margin of victory to 74-57.
The 49ers return to action at #11 Duke on Monday, November 23 at 7 pm.
