Charlotte games notes for the Saint Joseph's game ![]()
The Charlotte 49ers women's basketball team (15-10, A-10: 6-3) concludes their two-game home stand when they host Atlantic 10 foe Saint Joseph's (13-10, A-10: 5-3) in Halton Arena, Tuesday, February 12 at 7 pm. The victory over St. Bonaventure last Saturday was the 49ers tenth home win this season which marked the sixth straight season that the 49ers have reached double-figure home wins.
Charlotte has posted a 78-14 record in Halton Arena over the past seven years. During that stretch, the 49ers have made five straight postseason tournament appearances and have posted first-round WNIT victories at home in each of the last two years. The 49ers are 10-2 this season in Halton Arena with Atlantic 10 victories over Massachusetts, Saint Louis, La Salle and Saint Joseph's at home this season.
Junior center Danielle Burgin, who recorded her third straight double-figure scoring game with 10 points against St. Bonaventure, leads the 49ers in scoring (11.2 ppg) and rebounding (8.4 rpg). While, senior guard Sabrina Gregory is second on the team in scoring at 10.4 points per game. Last week, Gregory became only the seventh player in the program's history to record over 100 assists in two different seasons. She currently leads the team and ranks third in the A-10 with 106 assists. Junior guard Traci Ray scored 11 points against St. Bonaventure to move into third place on the team in scoring at 8.6 points per game. Sophomore forward Erin Floyd is fourth on the team in scoring 8.4 points per game. Sophomore guard Wendy Stywalt has recently been inserted in the 49ers starting lineup and she has responded with three double-figure scoring games in Charlotte's last four games including a 12-point performance against St. Bonaventure.
This game will mark the fourth meeting between the two teams. Saint Joseph's won both meetings between the two teams last season to take a 2-1 series lead. Saint Joseph's defeated Charlotte, 76-64, in the 2007 Atlantic 10 Tournament quarterfinals in their last meeting, March 3, 2007. Stywalt led four Charlotte double-figure scorers with 16 points in that game. Charlotte won the only previous meeting between the two teams in Halton Arena, 81-50, January 20, 2006. In that game, Gregory led the 49ers with 20 points. While Whitney Hoey added 12 points to the 49ers victory.
Admission to the Saint Joseph's game is $5 for adults and $2 for youth (17-and-under). While Charlotte 49ers student with a valid ID are admitted free as well.
