Charlotte Travels To Xavier For A National CSTV Game

The 49ers have won their last three games against Xavier including a dramatic 61-59 win last season

The Charlotte 49ers (16-10, A-10: 7-3), who have won nine of their last 12 games, plays Atlantic 10 foe Xavier (17-7, A-10: 7-2) on the road in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sunday, February 17 at 12 pm. The game is the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball TV game of the week and it will broadcast nationally on CSTV.

With four Atlantic 10 games left, the 49ers are in the hunt for one of the four first-round byes for the upcoming Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Tournament, March 7-10. The 49ers are currently in fourth place in the Atlantic 10 and they are a half game behind Temple and Xavier who are currently tied for second place in the league.

Sunday's game will mark the sixth meeting between Charlotte and Xavier. The 49ers lead the all-time series 3-2 and have won all three meetings between the two teams as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The 49ers first-ever A-10 win came against Xavier with a 76-72 win at home, January 3, 2006. The 49ers overcame a 20-point first half deficit to defeat Xavier at home, 61-59, in their last meeting, January 14, 2007. Danielle Burgin led all scorers in the game with 22 points. While Wendy Stywalt scored the game-winning basket with a jump shot in the lane with three seconds left in the game. The 49ers defeated Xavier, 63-55, the last time the two teams played at Xavier's Cintas Center. Former 49ers standout Sakellie Daniels led the 49ers with 22 points. While, Whitney Hoey added 10 points to the 49ers attack.

Burgin, who scored 10 points in the 49ers last game against Saint Joseph's, leads the team in scoring (11.2 ppg) and rebounding (8.4 rpg). Sabrina Gregory, who ranks 11th in school history with 1,213 career points, is second on the team in scoring (10.2 ppg), while leading the team in assists with 111. Erin Floyd, who scored a career-high 20 points on her 20th birthday in the 49ers win over Saint Joseph's, is third on the team in scoring (8.8 ppg) and second on the team in rebounding (5.0 rpg). Traci Ray is fourth on the team in scoring (8.6 ppg) while leading the team in steals with 47. Shannon McCallum recorded her eighth double-figure scoring game of the season off the bench with 12 points against Saint Joseph's. She also tied for the team lead with a career-high tying nine rebounds in the Saint Joseph's game.
