Charlotte, NC - Charlotte 49ers women's basketball coach Karen Aston announced the hiring of former Charlotte 49ers standout Sabrina Gregory as the Director of Basketball Operations. Gregory helped the 49ers win 80 games, claim the 2006 A-10 regular season title and reach postseason play four times during her stellar collegiate career.
"I am extremely pleased about being able to add Sabrina to our staff," Aston said. "I appreciated so much the passion she played the game with while here at Charlotte and know that she will transfer that to the professional side of our game. I knew the moment I met her that she has an extraordinary gift in leadership and I do believe that this will be a stepping stone for her into a successful coaching career. She has a love for the game and for Charlotte and will be a tremendous asset to our program. I could not be more thrilled about adding another 49er to the staff."
A couple of months ago, Gregory was named to the Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association Scholar-Athlete team for the second straight season. Gregory was also named first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District for the second straight year as well as to the A-10 Academic All-Conference team for the second straight season. She graduated from Charlotte in early May with a degree in Mathematics for Business.
This past season, she earned third-team All-Atlantic 10 honors for the second straight season. Gregory was also named to the A-10 All-Defensive team. She earned North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State honors for the second straight season as well.
Last November, she became the 15th player in school history to score 1,000 career points and she finished her career ranked 11th in school history with 1,286 career points. She set the program's career games played record by playing in 125 games. She finished her career at Charlotte ranked among the program's career leaders in points, assists, steals, field goals made, minutes played and games played.
