Women's Hoops Newcomer Rachelle Coward Invited To Tryout For The Canadian Junior National Team

Coward was one of 23 players invited to the tryout camp which will take place in Barrie, Ontario, July 11-12

Toronto - Charlotte 49ers women's basketball incoming freshman guard Rachelle Coward (Nova Scotia, Canada/Oak Hill Academy) has been invited to tryout for a spot on the 2008 Canadian Junior Women's National Team. Coward is one just 23 players that were invited to the tryout which will take place at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, July 11-12.

The two-day tryout will select the Canadian Junior National Team which will compete in this summer's FIBA U18 Americas Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina, July 23-27. The Canadian Junior National Team captured a silver medal in the 2006 U18 FIBA Americas Championship.

Once the final 12-player roster has been selected for the Canadian Junior National team, the team will train at Georgian College from July 13-19 before leaving for Argentina.

Coward, a 6-foot guard/forward from Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, has been named as one of the Top 100 Players in the United States by Slam Magazine.

Coward, who played her senior season at Oak Hill, scored 441 points (14.5 ppg) en route to earning the team Offensive MVP honor this past season at Oak Hill. She shot 49% from the field and 54% from beyond the arc. She earned All-Tournament honors after helping her team finish as the National Runner-Up at the NACA Tournament. This past year, she played an integral role in helping the U-17 Nova Scotia team finish third in the Canadian National Tournament. She was named one of the top five players on the Canada All-Star team. Before playing at Oak Hill Academy, she starred at the Kent School in Kent Connecticut. In 2007, at the Kent School, she was named to the Founder's League all-conference team.
