49ers Pound Francis Marion, 6-0, In Their Final Non-Conference Game

Oni Bernard scored two goals and assisted on another goal for the 49ers.

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team behind Oni Bernard's career-high two goals cruised to a 6-0 win over Francis Marion in their final non-conference game. With the win, the 49ers improved to 4-3-1 on the season.

"We worked on our attacks all week," Charlotte coach Jon Lipsitz said. "We felt like we needed to create better opportunities and our hard work paid off tonight."

Bernard scored the game's first goal when she put a Whitney Weinraub pass into the top left corner of the net just 27 seconds in the game.

Bernard added her second goal when she put the ball into the back of the net in the tenth minute. Nikki Dumencich and Weinraub assisted on the goal.

Weinraub scored her sixth goal of the season when she beat a couple of Francis Marion defenders and put a shot into the lower left corner of the goal in the 11th minute.

Charlotte made the score, 4-0, when Hailey Beam blasted a free kick into the right corner of the net from about 30 yards out in the 25th minute.

Jenna McKeon scored her first career goal off a Hailey Beam assist in the 52nd minute.

Charlotte's Sam Huecker scored the game's final goal off a Whitney Bryant assist in the 71st minute.

 

 

The 49ers finished the game with a season-high 28 shots. Beam and Huecker led the 49ers with five shots apiece. Bernard added four shots to the 49ers attack. Weinraub and Dumencich each tallied three shots apiece. Jonna Handra and Sam Fried each recorded two shots in the game.

The 49ers defense behind the play of goalkeeper Lauren Brown recorded their third shutout of the season. Charlotte limited Francis Marion to only four shots in the game.

The two-time defending Atlantic 10 Champion 49ers begin their quest for a third straight A-10 title when they open conference play at Transamerica Field against La Salle, Friday, September 26 at 7 pm.
