Charlotte, N.C. - Following up on a 6-0 victory over Francis Marion on Sunday night, the Charlotte 49ers women's soccer squad tagged six more goals on the board as they opened Atlantic 10 play with a decisive 6-0 victory over the La Salle Explorers at Transamerica Field.
Sloppy gametime conditions didn't hinder Charlotte's offense at all as they peppered the Explorers with 15 shots and cashed in on six of those opportunities to open conference play with a win for the third time in a row.
Freshman Oni Bernard got the scoring started for the Niners with a header at the 28:42 mark off assists from Nikki Labuda Czaplicki and Whitney Weinraub as the 49ers jumped on top 1-0. Beam also notched a pair of assists.
Sam Huecker and Hailey Beam would then tally two more goals before the clock expired on the first half to push the Charlotte advantage to 3-0 heading into the halftime intermission.
Charlotte would then continue their barrage as the second half began when Danielle Mayeaux headed in a Beam corner kick a mere 1:39 into the second half to push the score to 4-0.
Weinraub would then join the fray and tally the game's final two goals to finalize the scoring at 6-0. Charlotte outshot La Salle 15-5 on the game, and goalkeeper Lauren Brown recorded her second shutout in a row and now has not allowed a goal in over 200 minutes of play.

"This team is different than last year's team, so they play differently, but they're really beginning to come together as a unit and are playing tremendous soccer," said Lipsitz.
Lipsitz and the Niners won't be able to rest on their accolades for long as they next make the long trip to the Empire State to take on Saint Bonaventure on Sunday.
"This is probably the most grueling weekend of play I've been involved in since I've been here, we're here today and then we hop on a plane and fly to Upstate New York tomorrow to take on Saint Bonaventure on Sunday, it'll be a tough task for us against a well coached team," commented Lipsitz on his team's difficult conference opening weekend.
Charlotte will be back in action on Sunday when they look for their second conference victory of the season as they do battle with Saint Bonaventure at noon.
