Philadelphia, Pa. - Charlotte soccer standout Lindsey Ozimek and St. Bonaventure outfielder Randy Moley have been named the Atlantic 10 female and male Scholar-Athletes of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's fourteen directors of athletics.
In all three years of Atlantic 10 membership, Charlotte has had one of the two Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipients. In 2007, Cross Country/Track performer Jane Daniels was the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Charlotte Baseball student-athlete Mike Ambrose took the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor in 2006.
Ozimek, the 2007 A-10 Midfielder of the Year, dished out a league-leading 13 assists this past season while garnering first-team All-Conference honors for the third consecutive year. The Charlotte, N.C., native led the 49ers to the 2007 A-10 regular and post-season titles and was named to the All-Championship team for the third time. She ended her career with 43 assists, tops in program annals.
Off the field, Ozimek was tabbed a first-team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America for the second straight season and was a three-time Academic All-Atlantic 10 selection. The 2007 A-10 Women's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America second-team this past year while boasting a 4.0 grade point average majoring in special education.
"Obviously, we have always known that Lindsey is a tremendous soccer player," said Charlotte women's soccer coach John Lipsitz. "As a coach, it's been wonderful to know that she's an even better person."
"As special as it was coaching her, it has been more fun to take off the coaching hat and simply be friends. What's special about this award is that it speaks to the dedication of the person receiving it. This really shows her personal investment into the team, the school and our program."
