Charlotte, NC - Seven members of the two-time defending Atlantic 10 champion Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team were voted preseason All-Atlantic 10. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Brown (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley Regional) and sophomores defender Whitney Bryant (Marietta, GA/Lassiter) and midfielder Sam Huecker (Crestwood, KY/Oldham County) were named to the preseason All-Atlantic 10 team. Four members of Charlotte's Atlantic 10 best recruiting class were named to the preseason Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team. Freshmen forward Oni Bernard (Toronto, Ontario/Agincourt Collegiate), midfielder Jonna Handra (Port Vue, PA/South Allegheny), midfielder Jenna McKeon (Bayside, NY/St. Francis Prep) and midfielder Macky Wingo (Raleigh, NC/Saint Mary's) were selected to the preseason A-10 All-Rookie team. The preseason All-Atlantic 10 teams were selected by a vote of the league's 14 head coaches.
Brown, Bryant and Huecker played integral roles in helping the 49ers tie the school-record with 16 wins en route to the A-10 regular season and tournament titles and the third NCAA Tournament berth in the program's history. Brown and Bryant were both named to the A-10 All-Tournament team after helping the 49ers capture the title.
Brown earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 as well as North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State honors last year. She enjoyed a career-year in goal for the 49ers. She started all 22 games in goal for Charlotte last season. She set the program's single-season shutout record with 10 shutouts. She finished the season with a 0.78 goals against average which is the lowest GAA in the program's history. She also has helped the 49ers defense limit 18 foes to a goal or less this season.

Bryant was also named second-team All-Atlantic 10 as well as to the A-10 All-Rookie team. Bryant played an integral role in helping the 49ers defense record 11 shutouts and limit 18 foes to a goal or less.
Huecker earned honorable-mention All-Atlantic 10 honors as well as A-10 All-Rookie team honors last season.
Huecker, who earned A-10 Player and Rookie of the Week honors last season, finished the season tied for the team-lead with six goals, with all six of her goals coming in A-10 play. She was second on the team in assists with six and points with 18. She scored the game-winning goal in the 49ers A-10 regular-season title clinching win at Saint Louis.
Joining Brown, Bryant and Huecker on the 49ers roster this season is another highly touted recruiting class. Four members of the recruiting class were named to the A-10 All-Rookie team.
Bernard was a member of the Canadian U-16 National Team. She also played many years for the Ontario provincial team. As a member of the Richmond Hill Raiders club team, she played an integral role in them capture the U-16 National Championship. She also helped Richmond Hill capture three Ontario Cup Championships. She also played basketball where she led Agincourt Collegiate Institute in scoring and assists. She captured the 400 meter and 800 meter regional championships in track and field. She currently is spending her summer playing in the W-League,
Handra was selected to the National ODP camp. She is a two-year member of the Region I ODP team. For the past six years, she has been a member of the Pennsylvania West ODP team. She scored 178 goals in her career at Pennsylvania's South Allegheny High School to finish third in WPIAL's all-time career goals scoring list. She earned Eastern Region All-American honors after leading the WPIAL in scoring twice. She is a four-time all-section selection and two-time all-state selection. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette named her Athlete of the Year twice.
McKeon is a six-time member of the Region I ODP team and Eastern New York ODP State team. She was invited twice to the United States National Camp. She is a three-time captain of the ODP State team. In 2007, she earned W-League Team of the Week honors while playing with the Long Island Rough Riders. Her East Meadow Dynamo club team captured three state championships. She was a three-time first-team Timesledger CHSAA All-Queens selection at New York's St. Francis Prep High School.
Wingo is a three-year member of the Region III ODP team. She attended the 2007 U.S. National Camp where she won the Golden Boot award for the leading goal scorer at the camp. She was a two-time member of the USL Super-Y League National Select team and a three-time member of the USL Super-Y League South Atlantic Regional ODP team. She also played five years for the North Carolina State ODP team. She earned all-state and all-region honors twice at Raleigh, North Carolina's Saint Mary's School. As a member of the CASL club team, she helped them to two North Carolina State titles and two Region III Premier League Championships as well as three Super-Y League Championships.
Bernard, Brown, Bryant, Handra, Huecker, McKeon, Wingo and the rest of the Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team kickoff the 2008 season on the road at perennial national power North Carolina, Friday, August 22 at 7 pm.
