Charlotte, NC - The nationally-ranked Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team, who have won three straight A-10 regular-season and two straight A-10 Tournament titles, face another challenging schedule in 2009 which culminates with Atlantic 10 Championships returning to Charlotte's Transamerica Field, November 5-8. The 49ers play 11 regular-season homes games highlighted by non-conference games against 2008 NCAA Tournament participant Georgia, ACC foe NC State and Big East foe Villanova as well as A-10 home games against Duquesne, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Richmond and George Washington. Charlotte returns 10 starters and 21 letterwinners off a 2008 team which won a school-record 18 games including a perfect 11-0 mark in the A-10 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

"We are excited about our 2009 schedule, we play some highly established and traditionally strong programs," said Charlotte coach John Cullen, who enters his first season as head coach at his alma mater. "As always the highlight of the season is the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship which will be played in front of our fans at Transamerica Field."

The 49ers kickoff the 2009 season at 2008 NCAA Tournament participant William & Mary, Sunday, August 23. Charlotte hosts Southern Conference foe Appalachian State in their home opener, Sunday, August 28.

The month of September features six home games as well as road games against cross-county foe Davidson and A-10 foe Fordham. The 49ers begin the month with home games against Francis Marion, Friday, September 4 and Villanova, Sunday, September 6. Charlotte travels across town to face Davidson, Thursday, September 10. Then, Charlotte returns home to face 2008 NCAA Tournament participant Georgia, Sunday, September 13. Charlotte concludes the non-conference portion of their schedule with home games against East Tennessee State, Friday, September 18 and NC State, Sunday, September 20. Charlotte begins their quest for their fourth straight A-10 regular-season title with a home contest against Duquesne, Friday, September 25. Charlotte then travels to Fordham for their first A-10 road game, Sunday, September 27.

 

 

Charlotte plays nine A-10 games in the month of October. The 49ers open the month with home games against Rhode Island, Friday, October 2 and Massachusetts, Sunday, October 4. Then, the 49ers travel to Ohio to battle Dayton, Friday, October 9 and Xavier, Sunday, October 11. The 49ers return home for their final two regular-season home games as they face Richmond, Friday, October 16 and George Washington, Sunday, October 18 at Transamerica Field. Charlotte concludes the regular-season with three A-10 road games. First, the 49ers travel to the City of Brotherly Love to battle Temple, Friday, October 23 and Saint Joseph's Sunday, October 25. Then, the 49ers conclude the regular-season at Saint Louis, Friday, October 30.

In November, for the second time in the last three years the 49ers are hosting the A-10 Championships at Transamerica Field. The 49ers battle for their third straight A-10 Tournament title in the A-10 Championship which runs from Thursday, November 5 through Sunday, November 8.
