Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team swept the Atlantic 10 Weekly honors for the third time in the program's history this week. Sophomore forward Whitney Weinraub earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career. Freshman forward Jonna Handra was named A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week.
This is the third time in the program's history that the 49ers have swept the A-10 Weekly honors. Last season, sophomore midfielder Sam Huecker was named A-10 Player and Rookie of the Week, October 15. Then, Rachel Mees was named A-10 Player of the Week while senior goalkeeper Juli Black earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors, October 17, 2005.
Weinraub, who was named A-10 Rookie of the Week last season, earned her first-ever A-10 Player of the Week award after recording the program's ninth hat trick with three goals in the 49ers 8-0 win over Tennessee Tech last Sunday. She is the first 49er since the 2002 season to tally three goals in a game. Her three goal performance against Tennessee Tech marked the second time in her career that she has scored multiple goals in a game. She is the fifth different 49ers women's soccer player to earn A-10 Player of the Week honors.
Weinraub is currently tied with Hailey Beam for the team lead in goals with three and points with seven.
Handra, who was a preseason Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team selection, is the fourth different 49er to earn Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors. She earned her first career A-10 Rookie of the Week award after scoring her first two career goals including the game-winning goal in the 49ers 3-2 victory over UNC Wilmington, Monday, August 25.
