Oni Bernard Named A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week

Oni Bernard scored the 49ers first two goals in Charlotte's 6-0 win over Francis Marion

Sept. 22, 2008

Charlotte, NC - Charlotte 49ers women's soccer's freshman forward Oni Bernard was named A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week for her two goal performance against Francis Marion. She is the fifth different 49er to earn Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors. Earlier this season, fellow freshman forward Jonna Handra earned A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week honors as well.

Bernard recorded her first career multiple goals game when she scored the 49ers' first two goals in Charlotte's 6-0 win over Francis Marion, Sunday. She scored her first goal which proved to be the game-winning goal just 27 seconds into the game. Then, she scored her second goal in the tenth minute.

She is third on the team with three goals and she is one of six players on the team with at least two goals on the season.

Bernard and the rest of the 49ers women's soccer team begin the quest for their third straight Atlantic 10 regular-season title when they host La Salle in the A-10 opener for both teams at Transamerica Field, Friday, September 26 at 7 pm.
