49ers Begin Quest For Third Straight A-10 Title At Home Against La Salle

Charlotte has compiled a 17-2-1 record over the past two years against A-10 foes during the regular season

Sept. 25, 2008

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team (4-3-1) begins their quest for a third straight Atlantic 10 regular-season title when they host La Salle (4-3-1) in the A-10 opener for both teams at Transamerica Field, Friday, September 26 at 7 pm. Charlotte has compiled a 17-2-1 record over the past two years against Atlantic 10 foes during the regular season.

The 49ers are one of only three programs in Atlantic 10 history to claim consecutive league regular-season titles. Massachusetts and Dayton have both won consecutive league regular-season titles.

Sophomore Whitney Weinraub leads the 49ers with six goals and 15 points. Junior Hailey Beam is second on the team with four goals and 10 points. Freshman Oni Bernard, who scored two goals in Charlotte's last game, is third on the team with three goals. Senior Nikki Labuda Czaplicki, sophomore Sam Huecker and freshman Jonna Handra are tied for fourth on the team with two goals apiece.

La Salle is the only A-10 school that the 49ers have not defeated since joining the league. La Salle defeated the 49ers in their only meeting at home, 2-1, October 6, 2006.

Admission to the Charlotte-La Salle women's soccer game is $5 for adults. While, all youth (17-and-under) as well as Charlotte 49ers students are admitted free.
