Entry #6

Oct. 1, 2008

This week brought three really exciting things for me. First, I got to spend a whole week with my husband; second, I got to play this week, Yeah; and third its conference time. My husband Andy was here most of last week, he left on Friday for Missouri. We got to spend a lot of time together and actually act like a married couple.

I finally got to train this week and play over the weekend. It seemed even better because I didn't have that for a whole week. I was supposed to kind of ease into training over the week but I got thrown in a lot because Nikki Dumencich, who plays the same position as me, was sick. But I didn't care. I just picked up from where I left off before and just got after it sore knees or not.

After a good week of training we opened conference play with La Salle at home. We had only played them one other time since joining the A-10 and we lost so we felt like we had something to prove. We came out really strong and went into halftime up 3-0. We ended up finishing the game with a 6-0 win. We felt really good about our performance Friday night.

At 7 am on Saturday morning (September 27) we left the lockerroom for the airport to fly to Buffalo, NY and then drive to Olean to play St. Bonaventure. I was really excited about this game. As you may know, I am originally from New York, although not anywhere near St. Bonaventure. I think the drive took my family about five hours. I had 11 fans there which is a rarity for me. My fan base included, my parents, my husband's parents, my husband's brother, my grandparents, my great aunt and great uncle, and my sister and her boyfriend. I was really excited to see them and they were really excited to see me and the team. They cheered really loud when I went in, it as cute. They also brought all kinds of desserts for after the game, the star of which were the New York apples, which I guess isn't really a dessert but they were delicious.

We beat St. Bonaventure, 8-2, which is kind of weird because it was close early in the game. It was 2-1 going into halftime and it ended up 3-2 about 10 minutes into the second half. Around that point Katie Davies got hurt. She fell really hard on her head and neck and we had to wait quite a while for an ambulance to arrive. We were worried about Katie and it kind of served as a fuel to get us going again because we knew that we needed to score again in order to put the game away. We did and we scored again and again and again and again. I scored the 8th goal which was just like the icing on the cake for me.

Our team played so well this weekend and outscored our opponents, 14-2. That is not something that happens everyday and probably won't happen again this season but our attack was so dynamic we just kept scoring goals and they were all different. It was like we scored on you this way before and you might have figured that out but now we're going to score on you a different way. Needless to say it was a great weekend for us and we are looking forward to this weekend when we take on Saint Louis on Saturday (October 4) at home at 7 pm. Hope to see you there.

Go Niners!
