Charlotte, NC -

Two members of the Charlotte 49ers nationally-ranked women's soccer team have earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors, selected by CoSIDA. Senior midfielder Hailey Beam earned first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III honors for the second consecutive year. Beam was a second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American last season. Junior defender Megan Minnix earned second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III women's soccer team, selected by CoSIDA. As a result of being named first-team academic all-district, Beam will represent the district on a national ballot for Academic All-America honors.

These two players have played a major role in helping the 49ers women's soccer program earn a Top 25 national ranking as well as entering the final weekend of the regular-season on a 12-game unbeaten streak and tied for first place in the Atlantic 10.

Beam has a 3.80 GPA in Finance and Marketing. This season, Beam is second in the Atlantic 10 with 10 goals and 10 assists. Last weekend, she tied Courtney Cook's school-record with her 36th career goal. She also passed Cook to become the program's all-time leader in career points with 103.

Last season, Beam was the program's first consensus All-American. She also was named A-10 Midfielder of the Year as well as A-10 Women's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year. She has been named MVP of the A-10 Tournament the past two seasons.

Minnix, who earned A-10 Academic All-Conference honor in 2008, has a 4.0 GPA in Business. She is the 11th different 49er women's soccer player to earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors. This season, she has been a leader of a 49ers defense which has tallied 12 shutouts and limited 14 foes to a goal or less.

Last season, Minnix earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors. She also was named to the A-10 Championship All-Tournament team after helping the 49ers collect two shutouts en route to their second straight A-10 Tournament title. She was awarded Charlotte's Bonnie Cone Award for Academic Excellence last spring.
