Charlotte, N.C. - After turning in her first collegiate shutout this past week, freshman pitcher Katy Hackett (Dacula, Ga./Mill Creek HS) was named Atlantic 10 Softball Co-Rookie of the Week, league officials announced Monday, marking her first conference weekly mention and the second the 49ers have received this season.
Hackett held conference rival Saint Louis to just two hits in the first game of doubleheader action Saturday afternoon, notching her first shutout with the 2-0 win, moving her to 11-10 on the season with a 2.25 overall ERA. She was also credited with the save in game two of the Saint Louis series, pitching the final inning of the 5-4 win. On the week, Hackett struck out a dozen batters, giving up just three earned runs in 13 innings of work for a 1.62 ERA.
The freshman currently ranks second overall in the A-10 in strikeouts (128 in 159.1 total innings pitched), with 42 strikeouts coming against conference opponents.
Hackett joins freshman outfielder Whitney Williams, who was named Co-Rookie of the Week last week, on the honor roll.
The 49ers return to action tomorrow when they host ACC foe N.C. State at 4 p.m. at D.L. Phillips Softball Complex.
