Charlotte, N.C. - Fresh off a 3-1 week, including a 3-1 upset of No. 15 North Carolina and a clean sweep of Atlantic 10 rival Saint Louis, the Charlotte 49ers (25-20; A-10: 7-3) prepare to host ACC foe North Carolina State (25-20; ACC: 8-7) for a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the D.L. Phillips Softball Complex. Charlotte, who is currently ranked second in overall winning percentage in the conference, owns a 2-4 all-time record against the Wolfpack.
The 49ers are anchored offensively by junior catcher Jaime West, who drove in the game-winning winning run of the North Carolina upset. She ranks second in the conference in RBI (32) and third in doubles (9). She is joined by sophomore outfielder Serena Smith and junior shortstop Cee Brooks, who have contributed 29 and 24 RBI on the season, respectively.
Charlotte is led on the mound by freshman ace Katy Hackett (11-10), who was named A-10 Rookie of the Week Monday following a 1-1 week which included a 2-0 shutout at Saint Louis, marking her first career shutout, and her third save of the season. She currently ranks second in the league in strikeouts with 121. Hackett, who owns a 2.25 ERA, is joined in the circle by sophomore Emily Jeffery (13-8; 2.62 ERA), who held North Carolina to just one run on six hits to take the win.
The teams last met in a doubleheader last year, when then-No. 29 NC State swept the series, winning the first game 6-0 before taking the second game 8-0 in five innings.
