Charlotte, N.C. - After batting a .750 on the week, cracking nine hits at 12 at bats to lead the 49ers to a 3-1 record, freshman outfielder Whitney Williams was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week, league officials announced Monday. The honor marks her second weekly conference award this season.
Williams hit eight straight at-bats over the span of three games last week, going three-for-three in game two of the UNC Greensboro doubleheader, four-for-four in game one of the La Salle doubleheader, including an RBI infield single to bring in the third run in the 3-0 shutout, and had a single in her first at-bat in game two of the series. She was also a perfect three-for-three in stolen base attempts, moving her season total to 10 and ranking her second on the team in the category. Overall, Williams accounted for over one-third of Charlotte's hitting offense on the week with nine of 25 total 49er hits.
Williams, who currently leads the team with a .345 batting average and .403 slugging percentage, was named also Co-Rookie of the Week on April 7 after averaging .429 with six hits, four runs and an RBI to lead Charlotte to a 4-0 week.
Williams and the rest of the 49ers will return to action Tuesday with a doubleheader at Elon.
