CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For her sensational season in the circle, junior pitcher Emily Jeffery has been named the Charlotte 49er softball team's Most Valuable Player for the 2009 season.
Jeffery picked up first-team All-Atlantic 10 honors on top of first-team NFCA All-Southeast Region hardware.
The Matthews, N.C. native set the Charlotte single-season record in strikeouts 294 and also tallied the third highest wins total with 23. Jeffery matched the single-season shutouts record with nine and turned in the sixth-best single-season ERA with a 1.39 tally.
Jeffery's record setting season also places her in second on the all-time strikeouts list with 440.
While taking down multiple single-season records, Jeffery also boasted a 15 strikeout performance against St. Bonaventure on April 18 to set the single-game strikeouts record for the second time on the year. She originally set the single-game mark with 14 strikeouts against UNC Wilmington on Valentine’s Day.
On the season, Jeffery posted 16 double-digit strikeout games in the circle for the Niners.
Jeffery and the rest of the 49ers ended the season with a 33-16 mark. Charlotte has posted four straight 30-win seasons.
