Niners Wrap Up Fall Ball With a Busy Weekend

Charlotte's softball team took part in four games and two community services projects to wrap up the fall ball season.

Oct. 7, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte’s fall softball season wrapped up after an exceptionally busy weekend of action both on and off the field as the Niners took part in four games at D.L. Phillips Field and also took part in a pair of community service projects.

On Saturday, the 49ers were victorious over Campbell and UNC-Greensboro, before dropping their final two games of the weekend on Sunday to UNC-Greensboro and North Carolina.

Saturday and Sunday’s games were at the conclusion of the weekend for the Niners who took part in Friday’s Playground Build and also took part in the Stroll for Epilepsy on Saturday morning at the Belk Track and Field Facility.

"I honestly love helping people out in whatever way I can because growing up you have so many people help you out, that it's only right to give back. You also get to represent your team and your school and show the community that were not just student-athletes but were all around good people too," said senior utility player Keri Palma.

The entire 49er squad helped build the Race Playce at Nevin Park, which will be implemented to allow for an all-access playground for the kids of the greater Charlotte/Mecklenburg County area.

Then following Sunday’s game with the Tarheels, the Niner team signed autographs for and met with the Mallard Creek Optomist 8U softball team.
